An honest check on one exam

Item statistics, reliability and accessibility reviewed in ten business days.

Length
10 business days
Price, indicative
From $1,900 per exam

Most exams carry a few items that quietly do harm: too easy to tell anyone apart, keyed wrong, or confusing to a screen reader. The health check finds them from data you already hold, before you spend on anything larger.

How the ten days run

  1. Day 1

    Send the data

Item-level responses, the answer key and the form, as CSV or a QTI export.

  2. Days 2 to 5

    Run item analysis

Difficulty, discrimination and distractor counts for every item, and reliability for the form.

  3. Days 5 to 7

    Review accessibility

Each item checked for reading load, image descriptions and screen reader problems.

  4. Days 8 and 9

    Write the report

Findings item by item, ranked by how much each one affects scores.

  5. Day 10

    Hold the readout

A 45-minute call with the psychometrician who wrote the report.

What you receive

Who it is for
Anyone running an exam, ideally with responses from 100 or more candidates
Format
Remote review, with a 45-minute readout call
  • Difficulty, discrimination and distractor analysis for every item
  • Reliability for the form, with its standard error of measurement
  • An accessibility review of every item
  • A written report sorting items into keep, revise or retire
  • A 45-minute readout call with the psychometrician

Is this the right program?

Right for you if

  • You run an exam and have never seen its item statistics
  • You hold response data from at least 100 candidates
  • Appeals, pass rates or a board question have you uneasy about one exam
  • You want a low-cost look before committing to larger work

Look elsewhere if

  • You need new items written; see the Item Writing Workshop
  • You need a cut score reviewed; see the Standard Setting Study

Example: a real estate school’s final exam

A real estate prelicensing school gives a 100-item final exam to about 700 students a year and fields complaints about three questions. The report confirms two of them, finds a miskeyed item nobody had raised, and flags nine items almost every student answers correctly. The school revises twelve items before its next term.

Test Health Check questions, answered

What do difficulty and discrimination mean?

Difficulty is the share of candidates who answer an item correctly. Discrimination shows whether candidates who do well on the whole exam also do better on that item. An item that strong candidates miss more often than weaker ones usually has a flaw, such as a wrong key or an ambiguous stem.

What if we have fewer than 100 candidates?

We can still run the check, but the statistics will be less stable, and the report says so beside each number. With smaller groups the accessibility and content review of flagged items carries more of the weight. If your group is very small, we may suggest waiting for one more window.

Does our exam need to be on Exampit?

No. The check works on exams delivered anywhere, from a CSV of item-level responses and the answer key. If your system exports QTI, we read the items from that. Nothing is installed, and we delete the data within 30 days of the readout unless you ask us to keep it.

What does it cost, and what comes next?

From $1,900 per exam, fixed, with the report and readout included. Some exams need nothing more. If the report points to bigger work, our psychometric services cover item writing, standard setting and job task analysis, all listed on the pricing page, and nothing is booked without a separate proposal.
